The Sheridan County Community Foundation awarded three grants during the month of June. The grant recipients and amounts include a $500.00 grant to Special Olympics Kansas, Inc.; a $3,500.00 grant to the Sheridan County Rural Fire District #1; and a $1,996.13 grant to the Sheridan County Historical Society & Mickey’s Museum.
Funds awarded to the Special Olympics Kansas (SOKS) will assist the organization in promoting fitness and health as well as encouraging increased participation in competitions and other programming for individuals with intellectual disabilities in Sheridan County.
The Sheridan County Rural Fire District #1 grant award will assist in the purchase of a smart rescue dummy that can be used by local firefighters in their search and rescue training, extrication rescue practices, and for EMS/law-enforcement scenarios as well.
The Sheridan County Historical Society & Mickey’s Museum has been awarded a grant to assist in the purchase of scanning equipment allowing the organization to keep up with the demand of scanning photos and documents that are vital to preserving the culture and history of local Sheridan County residents and families.
All grants will be awarded from the locally managed Dane G. Hansen Foundation Community Fund.

Area organizations can submit grant applications for their projects and activities online at www.gnwkcf.org/hansen-grant for funding consideration. Application deadlines are the last day of each month for consideration during the Board of Directors' monthly meeting the following month.
Six categories are considered with making grants: 1) Education; 2) Health Care; 3) Community Social Services and Security; 4) Conservation and Environment; 5) Arts and Culture; and 6) Community Beautification.
